Ryan Gazzard grew up around construction. His father was a builder, the family home was permanently under construction, and weekends were spent on his father's private jobs, helping make ends meet. Construction was in the blood from the very beginning.

After finishing school at the end of Year 11, he secured a management internship with Stratco, which opened the door early. In those early years he established strong corporate disciplines that served him exceptionally well through the first decade of his career, one that moved from steel products and hardware into advertising and media, before settling in oil and gas with Elgas. There he spent eight years refining his leadership and sharpening his business acumen across South Australia and Western Australia, backed by exceptional mentors at every step.

In 2006, returning home to South Australia, construction came calling. His first role in the sector was State Sales & Marketing Manager for AVJennings. It taught him something he has carried ever since: the best construction businesses are built on far more than bricks and mortar.

More than twenty years of executive leadership followed, across state and national businesses. Through every market cycle, his approach has held: find the opportunity others miss, challenge the status quo, and keep reimagining what success can look like. That fire burns as strongly today as it ever has.

Today, his energy goes to the leaders having a serious go, the ones shaping their businesses for the future, and to turning that ambition into results that matter. His north star is kaizen, the discipline of continuous improvement, applied to what he loves most: high-performance businesses. Built Theory is that discipline made available, passing on what great mentors gave him and working alongside owners, executive teams, and boards to build businesses that are progressive, customer-centric, and ready for what's next.

Beyond the businesses he supports, Ryan gives his time to a matter of deep personal importance: the mental health of the construction workforce. Through the Master Builders Association of South Australia, he supports RISE, a state-government-funded program helping people in the industry who are dealing with mental health challenges find the support they need.
